About Ali

Ali Haigh is a contemporary Australian printmaker and designer who draws inspiration from the patterns and shapes found in nature and her surroundings.

Her creative style has been described as "playful-joyful," and she refers to each design as a "moment." She finds these moments by observing the patterns in sand or the water-worn stones on the beach near her coastal home in NSW.

The unique shape and patterns of natural specimens like the boxfish and banksia are of endless fascination for Ali, who firstly draws them from life and then re-imagines them through inversion, stylisation, simplification and repetition.

Ali prints her designs on everyday objects such as the humble teatowel to bring a touch of magic to the mundane.

Collaborations

Ali’s love of collaboration with both people and place has led to many exciting opportunities in her career.

A highlight in 2021 was her appointment as the Arts Coordinator for Stage 1 of the First Steps Count Child and Community Centre in Taree. Ali designed and cordinated the artistic component for the centre, working closely with Austin Mcfarland Architects, Duber Constructions, and the FSC Board.

The vision for the centre was “Many hands build, create and unite”. Ali engaged artists and community groups from First Nations and diverse backgrounds to create designs to connect and encourage families to engage, socialise and share the built and natural environments… read more about Ali’s collaborations in Creative Projects
